Avocet
on Thesen Island is a private holiday home on the
Garden Route. With its own waterfront and beach, the
home is built in the Colonial Maritime style that
identifies with Knysna's seafaring past. This modern
home has three en-suite bedrooms, a lounge, dining
room and kitchen with timber verandas and decks. It
has satellite TV, and is fully equipped for a family
of six.
Thesen Island has 24/7 security patrols, and
guests enter using security passes. The Island
features a communal club house, squash and tennis
courts, and a “wildlife nature reserve.”
Knysna and the surrounding forests are home to
unique fauna including a number of rare and
beautiful birds. One of which is the Avocet, after
which the island on which this home is situated is
named.
It is easy to reach Knysna by air. A 90 minute
flight from OR Tambo International Airport
(Johannesburg), and then by car, or airport transfer
from the George Airport which is just 80 kilometers
away.
The nearest major cities are Port Elizabeth
(260km) and Cape Town (500km). Daily bus services to
the Garden Route are offered by bus companies from
these centres, or you can hire a car which is easily
arranged with any of the major car rental companies.
